Use the following simple templates to document field observations consistently. They are generic examples for education and should be adapted to the instrument manual, the task, your company’s procedures and any applicable standard. They are not compliance forms or calibration certificates.
Measurement record template
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Date and time | Local timestamp, with time zone when necessary |
| Location / asset | Room, system, asset identifier and measurement point |
| Instrument | Model, probe/accessory, serial number if required |
| Condition | Load state, ambient temperature, pressure, airflow or other relevant context |
| Reading | Value and unit; include repeated readings when useful |
| Verification | Instrument checks, calibration status and reference used |
| Interpretation | What the readings support—and what they do not establish |
| Next action | Follow-up measurement, inspection or referral |
Before-and-after troubleshooting checklist
- Identify the symptom and record initial operating conditions.
- Confirm the measuring device, units and sampling position.
- Take a baseline reading and record the time.
- Change only an authorized factor; do not bypass protection or safety systems.
- Repeat the measurement under comparable conditions.
- Record the result, remaining uncertainty and further action needed.
Technical source checklist
- Is the product model and generation identified correctly?
- Is each numerical claim traceable to a current, accessible technical source?
- Do the units and calculation agree?
- Are the limitations of the instrument explained?
- Are uncertain findings described as hypotheses rather than facts?
